Sensational Kids is privately owned by caring health professionals providing an engaging and positive therapeutic experience in Melbourne's South East.
Sensational Kids is a multidisciplinary clinic consisting of Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Audiology, Counseling services and Developmental Playgroups. We also link clients in with other evidence based healthcare services such as naturopathy, paediatric specialists and physiotherapy.
Sensational Kids use a family centred DIR Floortime Philosophy. We strongly respect family values and goals for their children. Our therapists work with family to help achieve positive outcomes which is done by parent coaching and involvement.
One key focus of Sensational Kids Integrated Child Therapy is the treatment of Sensory Integration Dysfunction. Sensory Integration is the brain’s ability to take in, process and organise sensory input from one’s environment and integrate these messages in order to respond to their surroundings appropriately. In many children this sensory information may not be effectively processed, therefore they have difficulty relating to their environment.
When the brain isn’t able to integrate sensory information effectively behavioural problems and developmental issues may occur - these might lead to other difficulties with speech, language and motor skills. This is where Sensational Kids can assist: we help your child learn how to maintain their regulation and behaviour and we provide you with the tools to assist them at home and school. We do this through professional assessment, in-clinic therapy services, home and school visit observations and therapy, home programs, consultation, groups and intensive therapy options.
Another key focus of Sensational Kids Integrated Child Therapy is working with children who have autism spectrum disorders and social or pragmatic developmental delays. Sensational Kids will not treat only a diagnosis - we treat the child based on what our skilled practitioners observe from sessions and family questionnaires. Our strength comes from allowing variation and flexibility in treatment.
As at October 2008 Sensational Kids will have the capability to diagnose pervasive developmental delays (PDD) such as Autism, PDD-NOS, Aspergers, Social Pragmatic and Behavioural (oppositional defiance) disorders. Our experienced therapists will work in collaboration with a Developmental Paediatrician to assess children for treatment, funding and school reasons.
Sensational Kids offers a truly integrated therapeutic service. Our Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Worker and Psychologists liaise with each other to ensure that a comprehensive therapy treatment is given to all of our clients.
