Dani - Educational and Developmental Psychologist

Dani has over 8 years experience working with children, adolescents and families. She has a Bachelor of Social Science (Child and Family) and a Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental) from the Australian Catholic University.

Dani brings to the team a range of experiences in a variety of work settings and has completed training in trauma therapy, childhood disorders, family law, and attachment disorders. She has run various workshops that include grief and loss for parents dealing with children with a disability, counselling skills, depression and anxiety. She has been invited to join two review panels for universities that were undergoing accreditation for their psychology courses for the Australian Psychological Society, the professional body that oversees tertiary studies in psychology.

Dani has overseen and written a number of group programs that include social skills development, family violence, and sibling support. She practices within a psychodynamic (play therapy) approach and utilises a number of therapeutic interventions including narrative therapy, family therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) to name a few. Her passion is working with children and families to enable them to recognise and celebrate strengths and offer various solutions to everyday issues. She strongly believes in the child having a voice and someone being there to support the parents.

Kristin - Counselling Psychologist

Kristin is an experienced Psychologist who brings a fresh and positive approach to working with children and families. She works closely with our Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists. Her skill provides a wide range of services from individual counselling sessions to developmental playgroups and social skills groups for children. Kristin's therapy sessions are tailored specifically towards your family's needs and requirements.

Kristin studied extensively at Monash University completing a Bachelor of Science, Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. Kristin works to bring the latest research and theory into practice, completing a number of workshops and training days recently. These included a two day conference on Sensory Defensiveness by Wilbarger and Wilbarger (Therapressure Brushing Protocol).

Kristin believes strongly in a child centered and integrated approach used at Sensational Kids. She provides support, encouragement and solutions to the issues faced by parents. She has also completed a DIR Floortime introductory course that allows her to understand your child's developmental capacities and where therapy should be focused.

Rebecca - Educational Psychologist

Rebecca is an Educational Psychologist with over 12 years experience working with children, adolescents and families with a variety of complex needs. She has a background in assessment and treatment of children and adolescents having worked as a Psychologist within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

Rebecca's primary expertise lies in treating adults and children with a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders and behavioural disorders. In addition, Rebecca assesses children for Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental and learning delays. Rebecca has experience working with children in both individual and group-based programs. She regularly involves parents in sessions, where appropriate, which she feels supports openness and increases confidence within the family of their own skills to manage adversity. She balances this with the individual needs for privacy in each case.

Rebecca's approach is warm, friendly and caring. She believes parents to be the cornerstone in regards to their children's care and development. It is through the support of parents in this important role that they can provide their children with opportunities for growth and development. Rebecca is very mindful of the emotional support required also when parents are first aware of thier child's emerging difficulties.

Rebecca subscribes to a strengths-based approached and endeavours to build on her client's existing skills and abilities. Her extensive background in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focussed Therapy is used collaboratively with her relationship-based approach. This is further complimented by the Floortime approach practiced at Sensational Kids.

Shannyn - Counselling Psychologist

Shannyn is a Registered Psychologist with over 5 years experience working with children, adolescents, parents, and families in private and public sectors. Shannyn has a background working in schools and has provided psychological services to students and teaching support across several primary and secondary schools in Melbourne.

Shannyn brings a warm and engaging energy to Sensational Kids, and has a passion and keen interest in working with children, adolescents, and parents with anxiety. She also has experience and training in working with a range of presenting issues, including but not limited to; school refusal, bullying, trauma, relationship and attachment difficulties, mood disorders, ASD, self-esteem and confidence issues. Shannyn is a trained 1-2-3 Magic Parenting Practitioner, and has extensive experience in working with parents on setting boundaries, parenting strategies, and enhancing family relationship functioning and satisfaction.

Shannyn utilises play and art therapies, evidence-based strategies and interventions, as well as interpersonal and relationship based therapies. Her work is heavily grounded in establishing a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship, and she works towards achieving positive client-centred treatment outcomes, and empowering clients to build emotional intelligence, inner resilience, and coping skills for life.
