Psychology
Addressing your concerns and supporting you

Psychology is a way of addressing problems by talking them through with someone who, whilst supportive, is not directly involved in the situation. Our therapists focus on helping children and their families work through life’s challenging moments in a safe and supportive setting.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Our Psychologists work with children and their families in the following areas:

  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
  • Emotional difficulties such as anger management and depression
  • Anxiety, including separation anxiety
  • Self-confidence
  • Parent support and counselling
  • Challenging behaviour such as Oppositional Defiance Disorder
  • Social skills

At Sensational Kids we offer a variety of sessions to help support your needs. These include:

Individual Counselling

Our experienced and supportive psychologists will listen carefully to your concerns, help you explore and express your feelings and help you find ways to manage your feelings more effectively.

Parent Support / Parenting skills sessions

Parenting is often considered the most difficult job and the most important responsibility you will have in your life. Most parents learn what they know through friends and family or their own personal experience — and most of the time this works.  For those times when it doesn’t, our Psychologists are there to help.  We offer support and practical strategies to help you understand what your child is going through, and ways in which you can work with them to smooth out the rough patches.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO SEE A PSYCHOLOGIST?

Every child is different but there are a number of key signs that your child may require some help.  These include:

  • Avoidance of situations
  • Low mood
  • Heightened anxiety including separation anxiety impacting on daily life
  • Challenging behaviours
  • Impact of behaviour on family function
  • Difficulty with friendships or other relationships
  • Extreme emotional reactions
  • Challenges with self confidence

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

WHAT CAN I DO?

Give us a call to book an appointment with one of our Psychology team members.  We like to spend some time with parents first and then meet children in the following session so we can fully understand any concerns raised.
